Safety Guidelines
When using essential oils, there are precautions you need to take. Some of these are listed below:
- Keep all essential oils out of the reach of children
- When using the oils on infants/children, make sure to dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil (coconut, olive, or almond)
- Keep all essential oils in a cool and dark place
- Always wash your hands before and after using the oils
- Never put any essential oils in your ears and eyes
- There are some oils that can cause severe skin sensitizing and are phototoxic (a few examples are grapefruit and lemon)--make sure to stay out of the sun or tanning beds at least 12 hours after applying those oils to the skin
- There are many oils considered safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Click here for an example of a great book considered to be an excellent reference
